OUR HISTORY

The Rapture Church of Christ began on October 22, 2000 with Bishop Joel C. Johnson, his wife Ernestine, and children, Joshua and Brittney.

In July of 2000, Bishop Johnson and his family were led by the Lord to move to Franklin, Virginia. Upon relocating into the area, services were held at the Best Western hotel in Isle of Wight County. Several souls were saved in the banquet room of the hotel. After receiving instructions from God, Bishop Johnson met Mr. Cecil Goodwin. Through him Bishop Johnson learned of this building on Bogart Street that would provide a more suitable location for the church. After several months of working on the building, it was dedicated to the Lord in March of 2003.

Since the beginning of Rapture Church, the Lord has blessed many souls to be baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost,  as well as the joyous celebrations of marriages, ordinations, home going services and christenings.

Bishop Johnson’s ministry reaches beyond the walls of Rapture Church to ministries and people of God far and near building up the body of Christ. In July of 2013 Bishop Johnson was consecrated as a Bishop by PUCCA, Pentecostal United Churches of Christ Apostolic under presiding Apostle Fred Graham. Currently, Bishop Johnson oversees 3 churches: Rapture Church of Christ, Franklin, Va., The Word Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, South Boston, Va. and Greater Refuge Greensboro Church of the Apostles Doctrine, Greensboro, N.C.

Bishop Johnson pastors Rapture Church and the Word Church with the combined ministries of Elder Michael Ford , and Lady Ernestine Johnson. Greater Refuge is pastored by Elder Thaddeus Foddrell and his wife Missionary Tracey Foddrell.

May God bless you and keep you until the Rapture of the Church.
